A Quote for life!

“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly.

One of the days of the year we were always looking forward to - may be from the first day of any year, during school days. It is not January 1, neither our birthdays and of course not the first day after the Summer Vacations. It was this day in the year that found a very unique importance in our student life. We used to write the date in the top right hand corner of our notebooks everyday when we opened it. The format, in our school, used to be DD/MM/YY and so, on November 13, 1997 we would write 13/11/97. Hence, in a given year, till I was in school (1998) on every first day of September we used to write as 1/9/86 (for the year 1986) – which will build up the year for you. 1-9-84 (September 1, 1984) gives the year as 1984. Childish, I agree; but those used to be very joyous moments for us.

Well, here when I tell you about today’s date, you may not feel the same importance as much as we have given the same in the school days; but it is a way to speculate how small things in life gather that much importance. This was a tiny thing we used to do every year, and we used to pray that year 2000 should never come in our life, as we would miss this date henceforth in our lifetimes. You know the next date, that is going to come in the same form is January 2, 2100. I am sure; I will not be alive by then to enjoy it. Trust me I will always be missing this date …
