A Quote for life!

“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly.

Hi there, I am talking to you। Are you listening? We all need to listen at times, and it is time that we listen. It has been more than six decades now.

India got independent on August 15, 1947 from the British raj. What a moment – what a feeling! After two centuries of barbaric British rule, which left the golden bird a mere developing country? Developing? Who is developing? India? India was already a developed country, when the United States of America, United Kingdom, Russia or Germany was not countries at all! People learnt to live from India. People learnt how to earn bread from us. People learnt everything from us. And now, they call themselves developed (and high flying) countries and us, a developing one – still a developing country after 6000 years (read thousands) of elite culture and development and 60 years of independence.

This is not entirely their fault. We need to be blamed for this. When we look back in the past 61 years, we cannot say we did much. I have seen the last 26 of these and I am more than happy to see what India has gone through in these years. Yes, I can say we have developed a lot during the last few golden years. The question and concern is, is this growth and development going to go on or is this going to stop? There is an odor of laziness these days I feel – a feeling which does not make me smile. The trend is stagnant, I feel. We need to gear up and pull our socks again – go on with the same spirit. We have done well; we can do better. We will do it – together!

This is the time to stand up and run towards the goal. We cannot sit back repenting on what we have not done and what we could have done. Time is money and time is now. We have done wrong throughout; we are seeing flare now – in the eye of the nation. Let that glow and let that spread like a jungle fire. Its time we get up and set our feet on the steps to eternal bliss – in the fields of agriculture, literacy, science, defense, sports and what not! We need to rule the world again. They will bow to us one day – may not be today or tomorrow; but the day after that, the next sunshine, the next time the tide hit our beaches, the next moment that aluminum moon sets in our deserts, the world will be ours! There will be one nation – India. There will be one tribe – Indians. There will be one color – brown. No, that color will be named Indian then.

I was talking to you, because I wanted you to understand this time; the need of the hour and the want of the nation. I know you know. We all know. I know, you know and s/he knows. Mere knowing will not do any good – not anymore. Buckle up your shoes and sharpen your weapons. What we have they do not; neither can they learn this. It is a child’s play for us to adapt to what they have. Did not we see this happening? We did. We have seen ourselves forgetting our language, costumes and customs and acquiring theirs’. It was just a matter of time – just a way to show that we can also do what they can. They cannot do the same – they will not be able to do the same with our culture, our costumes and our language. The way we speak English is just like our own mother tongue – can they speak any of the Indian languages that easily? A big NO! This is our plus point. Science (and Darwin) says they do not stand a chance because they cannot adapt. We can. We are hence, superior. It is time we tell them the same now.

Wake up fellows and stand for the cause. This independence day, we pull our emotions up and remember the blood we shed to gain what we have now. We have not gained even a morsel of what we have been robbed off. The lion’s share is still out there with the intruders, robbers and extortionists. We need to gain all those back now. ‘We’ includes all of us – you who is reading this and me and her and him and them – all Indians – wherever they are. I wish you all a very Happy and Flourishing Independence Day. Have faith in yourself – have faith in India. We shall rise again.

Balo balo balo shabe
Shato beena benu rabe
Bharat abar jagat shabhay
Shreshtha ashano labe…

Today in My Life:
This day is very special. It is the day when we got independence. The same date, my mother was born. On August 15, 1947, early morning in Habiganj, Silet, Bangladesh, my mother was born. She also turns 62 today. I owe her my life and a lot of apologies for whatever I have done and whatever I could not do. Third, it is the same day in 1980 when my parents were married. They celebrate their 28th marriage anniversary this time. I love them all the same and would like to thank them for my upbringing, education and thoughts that they have given me and groomed me to what I am today and for everything. I know a mere ‘thanks’ cannot be enough to show my gratitude (even gratitude cannot be the right word). It is perhaps time for me too to stop talking and do something now. I will do. I wish my mother a very happy birthday and both my parents a very happy marriage anniversary too. The whole nation is celebrating and so am I.
