Pandion - an easier IM

Are you bored of using the black and white Gtalk client or Gmail Chat widget with no appropriate smilies? Are you bugged up because your Gtalk client or Gmail Chat widget keeps on logging you in and out? Are you concerned because Gtalk Client or Gmail is blocked in your home, office or cyber café that you visit frequently?

If the answer to all these is ‘YES’ then Pandion is the perfect solution for you.

Pandion is an instant messaging client for XMPP and Jabber networks; however, it allows you to login in to your Gmail chat using your Gmail ID and password. There is absolutely no setting changes or registration required to use it. It is free and most adorable because you can actually use various fonts with colors instantaneously along with a host of smilies. You can also download and install various environments available with Pandion. Pandion also comes with various setting options and preferences that you can alter according to your own requirements. Along with all these features Pandion gives you popup messages when someone in your contact list comes online, unlike Gtalk.

Let’s come out of the black and blue patches in Gtalk and Gmail chat into this Instant Messenger named Pandion. I know that Google will soon introduce all these options in Gtalk and/or in Gmail chat widget; but until they come out with an extended version, let us enjoy Pandion to the fullest!

Download Installation file for Pandion 2.5.
To know more about Pandion, please visit its Home Page.
To start using Pandion:
  • Use the above link to download the installer file.
  • Save the file in your PC and double click on it to finish installation.
  • Put in your Gmail username and password and login.
  • Done!

NOTE: Pandion is not new for people who have used Jabber in their offices (mainly). The only drawback that I could figure out is that you cannot create a common room to chat in, like conference option in various other IMs. Please note that the fonts, colors and smilies will not be visible to the people you chat with who do not use Pandion.

Superstar Blogger Award

Well, another award – the third in two week’s time. Am I blushing? Ha ha ha ha ha! I am. It gives a lot of encouragement to get recognized and recognition in any form is lovable, is not it? Now, let me tell you about this award.

Stephen Anthony aka The Solitary Writer awarded me with this Superstar Blogger Award. He is an active blogger and co-authors a list of superb blogs. He is one of the founders of The Writer’s Lounge. A budding computer engineer, a developer of Blog Templates and a prolific writer – be it poems, stories or series of short stories – he does it all and with galore. A patriotic Indian and a good human being; calls me Bhaiya but I rate him no less in the world of words.

Thank you Ste (as we all call Stephen) for the award. Hope I would do justice with it. As usual, it would take some time for me to forward the same, but I will do, as and when required. I have pasted the award in Thus Wrote Tan!

Republic Day Event!

Happy Republic Day people! Wishes and dreams that flow on such an occasion in India often comes along with blemishes to humanity, to democracy and to Indian Constitution. Do you think of it? Do you get concerned?

I would like to attract you to the mishap that took place in Mangalore, Karnataka on the eve on Republic Day. A group of anti social activists from the Sri Ram Sena stormed into a pub and attacked the women guests in there. They abused, assaulted, battered and beat up those women who were (perhaps) enjoying the Republic Day eve. I saw the news in the channels just before the Republic Day parade started at the Rajpath, Delhi. That was the first news of the day. I was shocked to see these inhuman spineless moving object (called Sri Ram Sena activists, who are supposed to be men) executing the assault. This is what is happening in India on the eve of 60th Republic Day.

I am not concerned about what the women were doing there. I am concerned with the fact that people who have named themselves as Sri Ram Sena, a pro-Hindu apolitical organization based in Hubli, Karnataka and founded by Promod Mutalik, are doing such ruthless and cruel acts. I dislike these religious political parties as much as I dislike the Pakistani terror groups. They both are synonymous and cause equal harm to the thought behind the republic of India. What do you think are those terrorists thinking when they hear this news? Yes! They are laughing their lungs out. How do you think that India will rise against terrorism, while we are indulged in such malicious activities within ourselves? India was never united – right from the time of Siraj-ud-Daulah till date. We betray each other, we envy each other and we fail to stand beside ourselves. This is how the fanatics get chance to enter our heart and tear it apart – and get away untouched!

In a secular country like India, how can parties like Sri Ram Sena, Shiv Sena, Muslim League and Bajarang Dal etc. be politically recognized? Is this not a slap on the face of secularism or the Republic of India as a whole? We can never forget what Muslim League has brought upon us, 60 years ago. How can the government identify one more religion based parties politically? These are all wraths to Indian sovereign. If India wants to become a super power and actually challenge terrorism the first thing that needs to be done is to isolate these Mir Jafars from ourselves and hang them in broad daylight – once and for all. Raj Thakrey, the canny sly politician, who crafted all the communalism against North Indian people in Mumbai and Maharashtra as a whole went underground right after the terror attack on Mumbai. Was he there to talk about the brave North Indian (let me use this word here for once) commandoes, who saved Mumbai? No! Because he never thought Mumbai, or Maharashtra or India to be his own. He thought only about the power and government in Maharashtra, for all he cared about is his own political gains. Similar are these leaders of other groups – Shashidhar Shetty of Sri Ram Sena et. al. – they are the last people to think about anyone else – not even for this cowardly group who carried out this operation in Mangalore.

Sri Ram Sena? Shame on you all! In the land of Rama and Sita, you are assaulting and abusing women? How hypocritical and how shameful acts! To hell with your party and to hell with your politics! In fact, you are no politicians at all. You are just a group of anti social elements who needs to be bashed naked till death. If you have the smallest of respect for your own mothers, sisters and wives, please stop these inhuman activities and get into a life, where you can be regarded as human beings.

Mates, there are huge threats to Indian Republic from all over the world. The nearest and most vivid dangers are countries like Pakistan, China, Bangladesh etc. the Americans and British are not far from declaring war against India – the only thing that is holding them is Indian Unity and growing power – be it economic or nuclear. India is shining and rising and it will not rise anymore if we hold it back and tie it up with ropes of anti social activities, communalism, terrorism and dualism. Get together – get along and be the backbone of Indian Democracy – and do not become spineless yourselves. Let us come together and stand united. Hope to have a better India – a better place to live in – a better place to breathe in! Jai Hind!

Times Of India's Viewpoint on this issue:

Organisations like the Sri Ram Sena are emboldened to act as they did in Mangalore because the cost-benefit equation works out very well for them. The benefit from such boorish moral policing is in the form of national publicity that lures fresh recruits to the ‘cause’. And the cost is possible arrest and a very short jail term. It’s important, therefore, to raise the costs. In this case, for instance, they could be charged under Section 153A that deals with offences against public tranquillity and carries a sentence of up to three years. It must be used not just against the actual miscreants, but also office-bearers of the Sena. Rigorous prosecution leading to conviction should help persuade them to desist from such anti-social behaviour in future.

Friends Award

Happy Republic Day people! Hope we flourish and grow along with India.

It was a long weekend for me. Yes, an anniversary party was there too. Enjoyed it fine! However, was a bit tired after the unusual three days weekend. When I came to office and logged in to my computer, I was never prepared for all these. I was surprised and too happy to see so many mails this time – with comments on my blogs to mails from old friends. Loved it too much! Then, when I was browsing through the new mails, I saw this comment from Patty who awarded me with this Friends award. I was overwhelmed!

Patty and her husband Abe are from Ohio, United States. She has this blog named, Old Lady Lincoln which she updates religiously with very witty and eventful posts. She has seen 72 splendid springs in life and is still going strong. She is, undoubtedly a strong lady blessed with a big family. Every time I visit her blog, it is either fun or there is some information to bring back. Well, I need not talk much about her, you can know the same once you visit her blog.

I thank Patty for all her generosity to award me with this. However, as with my first award, I am not going to forward this award right away to my friends. This may be a breach in the code of conduct for blogs, but I am really clueless on how to forward the same. Well, I know the way, but I do not know the justified people who need to get this award. May be in sometime, I will be able to trace them and forward the same to the deserving ones. Till then, let me enjoy the award! Well, I have put this award in: Thus Wrote Tan!

My Grandma and HP

Most of us have been admiring models who show up in various ads in various media. Have you ever thought of modeling yourself? Well, if you have not done this and aspire to do so, let me tell you that its not too late. As they say, “Its never too far, from where you are!” Trust me with this.

One of my colleague and friend has found a hidden talent of modeling in his grandmother. She may not be a very famous model, but she is of same caliber, never the less. See this video here for yourself and decide. I just fell at her feet after seeing this – she is beautiful, cute and gorgeous and on top of it she is very talented.

Free Spirit and Independent Award

My first Blog award! What a feeling – lol!

Till yesterday, I never knew what a blog award was. I have seen multiple blogs with many awards on
them, but never could figure out what that is actually. At last, I received one myself. This is the Free Spirit and Independent Award. One of my mates from The Writer’s Lounge, Pratibha awarded me with this, which I have put in my blog, Thus Wrote Tan! Thank you Pratibha for the same! I am gratified to have received my first ever blog award through this.

Well, I also learnt that this award has to be circulated and forwarded to other bloggers. I need to find someone apt for receiving this award. I’m too new to this world and ignorant to do justice to this award and I would take some time to forward the same. Let me enjoy the award for sometime mates, until I find someone else, whom I can forward the same to. Stay Tuned!!

It seems like its raining awards these days… I’m obliged.

Slumdog Millionaire - a review!

... ... ... as I saw it

Slumdog Millionaire, a movie I saw recently has left an impression on me too. Wow! What a transition of facts and molding of the same into the harsh reality! The director and the production stuff did awesome and similarly did the characters too. They have given life to a based on Indian diplomat Vikas Swarup's debut novel 'Q and A' written on the backdrop of an Indian television saga, “Kaun Banega Crorepati.” The film talks about a person with a below average life, who belonged to the slums in Mumbai, the business capital of India. One who has no professional training; who never went to school or college and spent his life in the slum actually wins a game show where the prize money is in millions. There were several incidents that took place in his life and he learnt the answers (asked to him in the game show) from all these experiences. The thought behind the movie was stubborn and might attract distrust and whining among the audience, but it talks about hope, fate and coincidences, which are not abnormal in life – only that a normal human being gets 2 or 3 such big coincidences in his entire life, but the hero of the movie had all 15 happenstances! Possible – quite possible! I was moved by the life being portrayed of that of a slum inhabitant. A twenty year old boy knows the name of the person whose face is inscribed on a US$ 100 note, but does not know whose picture is there in an Indian currency note – just because he came across that name (Benjamin Franklin) in a tragic experience of his life. True – normal – fluke but possible!

I loved the movie. My wife loved it too and a few of my colleagues in office also talked high about the movie. I do not care what happens to the movie in the Box Offices all around the globe or if the Music Director, A. R. Rehman gets a Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award (Awarded Best Music Score). The only thing that I am posting this review here is because I loved the thought, the format, the scenic depiction of Indian slums and the extent of coincidences in life. Miracles do happen – the movie is one of them. Looking forward to lay my hands on the book now.

Zodiac Analysis for 2009

I do not very necessarily believe in Sun signs or Moon signs. However, I do peep in to the newspaper at times and look in and look for all the favorable things written about me and my wife and a few other relatives, whose signs I know. Here is what they say about Librans (September 23 – October 23).

A good year for all Librans.

The year seems to be a favourable one for all Librans. Due to suitable planetary configuration during January - April of 2009, most Librans would start the year quite well(if not with a bang!). You will taste success during the first phase of year. Sudden gains via share market would be likely. At the work place, you would be much respected and honored. Even a promotion may land on your lap. You will feel optimistic and be cheerful. People will enjoy your company and be much influenced by your infectious cheerfulness. This is a favorable period for career and finance. A change in residence or city is also possible during this time. Such a change would be auspicious. There may also be a gain in your wealth and material possessions. The middle of the year may bring in some sudden troubles and postponement of daily pursuits. Politics at work place can tarnish your image. So tread with caution till the last phase of 2009, when things would turn for the better. You may also enter into new deals during this time. On the domestic front, there will be happiness and contentment during January - April. It is also a good time to work out the kinks in existing relationships. But conjugal life of married people may be fraught with disturbances during this period. There might be a lack of mutual understating and cooperation between wedded partners. Things would, however, smoothen out during the second and last phases of the year. This would be a good time for those in love and even those already wedded.

For students, the first four months appear to be a favorable period. The time is encouraging for study and exams. You will get right reward of your hard work. However, problems may crop up in education related matters during the latter phase of the year. There are good chances of traveling, even trips to foreign lands. Healthwise, the first and last phase of the year is favorable. But, you need to be extra careful during May - August.

If you are not a Libran and wish to check the predictions and analysis for yourself, please visit this link to Zodiac Analysis for 2009.

Forgotten?

Is Mumbai forgotten? Those terror struck nights of November 2008, when the whole country was burning along with Mumbai following the attacks by roguish Pakistan have cut deep in my mind to just forget them this easily. What happened after that? What about the candles and mourning over the death of the brave soldiers? What about all the evidence we collected against Pakistan? Is this not enough to just throw a war against them? How long should India wait? How many times do we overlook these filthy people of Pakistan?

At present, India has all the evidences that trigger to the fact that the attack was done after a well planned Pakistan venture. The terrorists were Pakistani, their trainers were Pakistani and the whole terrorist group spreading panic is Pakistani – its proven now – the Indian Government knows it, the United Nations Organization knows it, the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA knows this fact. Then, why the hell are we Indians waiting? Why can’t we just declare war against these fanatics?

The Government is going by the book, it seems. They gathered all the information from Kasab (the Pakistani terrorists captured in Mumbai) and forwarded the same evidences to the Pakistani Government to take action! What a joke! I am unsure if I should call this an immature shaggy dog story or height of optimism. How can we expect those same people who sent these criminals to perform this mayhem in Mumbai to dramatically (and catastrophically) change overnight and take measures to hinder terrorist activities in Pakistan and stop terrorism? Typically, the Pakistani Government did not take any step and even did not acknowledge the receipt of the evidence sent by the Foreign Minister, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee. Instead, they have reinforced their troops along the western and north western border of India; as if they are preparing for a war. Yes they are! On the other thoughts, they are not preparing – they are just continuing with what they were doing since their inception – creating panic in India.

Pakistan is at the top of the ladder in creating bloodshed. They are spreading all over the world now. They have been doing such inhuman brutal acts for a long time now and have not shown any signs of retreating or refraining from too. It is time to end their cruelty and cut the throat of terrorism in the world. What a disgraceful country! What a dishonorable government! What shameful acts! The government shouts at the peak of its voice and tells that the events in Mumbai were carried out by Indian Government ourselves – what dishonor mate! We kill our own people and our foreign guests, destroying our heritage buildings and messing up with the entire peace balance of the country and the present and future tourism prospects just to bring bad name to these unworthy Pakistanis? Shut up!

The Indian Government was to play a big role here; but somehow I feel it is taking the easy way out. I hope they just do not keep blaming the Pakistanis and keep quiet. I know the Pakistanis
are at fault – we all know this. There is nothing to prove Mr. Prime Minister et al. We do not want you to prove anything in front of us – not any more. I am sure the citizens want action now and want to see Pakistan eradicated from the map of the world. They don’t stand against us – not then, not now, not ever! Their forces may be treacherous, but are not powerful. Their government may be cunning, but not impressive. Their people may be like us, but they are terrorists!!!!! It is time we take our steps forward. It is time we just stop blaming a crazy dog for biting us and kill it; for this is the ultimate destination of it. It’s already one and a half moths past the incidence in Mumbai and India is still communicating, evaluating and negotiating with Pakistan. There is no point in all these – not any more. It is high time we take resort to violence and belligerence – giving them the same thing they want – this is the language they understand. Why should we talk to them in humane languages, then? No point in discussing anything anymore. I am waiting, along with the whole nation and may be the world too, to see steps being taken against Pakistan. Hope this happens in near future. Amen!

New Year Resolution

Another year has gone by. Its 2009 now and its quite warm! I could feel the warmth of late. Well, nothing changed much for me; however, I am looking forward to a successful year ahead. This is the year when I will go past 28 years of life. This is the year that I was looking forward to and I seriously believe that its time that things need to be changed in here. There would be more love and more compassion all around. There would be more responsibility and more dedication. However, there is no New Year Resolution this time. I was watching a talk show the other weekend, where the host said, “even if you realize your resolution, trust me that nothing is going to change, and it is going to create no difference in your life!” How true he was! So, no resolutions this time; just that I will overcome my laziness. Probably the only thing between me and a successful life is my laziness. I was lazy throughout and I did a lot of things in life owing to my laziness. If I would do one thing this year with utmost importance it is going to be overcoming my laziness. My friends, my wife and even my parents know now, that I am a lazy fellow. I admit, that I am lazy and I do only those things, which I like to do. But this year, things are going to change. I am going to change things, if they do not change by themselves.

You know what? I am growing old. I mean, I am not the same old boy now – I am almost a man now, with a family and with lots of responsibilities and tensions of their own kinds. I have been avoiding those, in some way and have been running away (maybe). Enough is enough, they said. I say the same and will face things upfront. I do not want to lose my precious years of life in doing things I would better not do. Earning money and surviving has been the daily dose of life for me now. I would change that so, that it does not remain like this. I will move – I will shake and I will roll!

Wish me luck and stand beside me. We can rock it … longer and harder!
